Hong Kong/China The vibrant megacity at the mouth of the Pearl
River welcomes you with a friendly "Ni hao". In the evening, the COLUMBUS 2 sets course for
Taiwan.
Chelung (Taipei)/Taiwan In a park on a mountain high above the city, Kuan Yin
protectively holds her hand over Chelung. You will encounter the huge statue of the Goddess of Mercy on
the walk amidst the marine sculptures of Yehliu* - in this national park, the sea, the sun and
the wind have created the most bizarre shapes and provided entire rock formations with the appearance
of animals or people. The skyscraper Taipei 101, the second tallest building in the world, is just one
of the highlights of Taipei* - you will also be amazed by the treasures of 5,000 years of
Chinese art at the National Palace Museum and the Buddhist Longshan Temple.
Kaohsiung/Taiwan
Temples and pagodas* fringe the crystal-clear Cheng Ching Lake, the shores of which
accommodate Taiwan's most significant port city. Via the nine corners of the zig-zag bridge you will
get to the seven-storey Chung Hsing Pagoda, from which you can enjoy magnificent views of Kaohsiung.
The spring and autumn pavilions amidst Lotus Lake are emblems of China's more recent architecture.
Interesting insights into life according to the principles of Confucius can be gained on a visit to the
Fo Guang Shan Monastery*.
Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)/Vietnam The "grande dame" on the banks of the Saigon
River is literally brimming with vitality. Soak up the unique atmosphere of this old and new centre of
Vietnam on the city tour* - the hospitable locals will be smiling at you, extending some other
gesture of welcome or waving at you from every house. Millions of scooters and mopeds are dashing
through the streets. With a typical rickshaw, you can explore the markets in China Town, where trade
has been rife for more than 300 years. Travelling through the Mekong Delta*, you will discover
the epitome of tropical landscapes - between the fertile paddy fields, we will come across small
villages in which traditions and lifestyles have not changed much over the decades. The tour with the
rustic boats on one of the maze-like branches of the mighty river promises to be a little adventure.
Typical Vietnamese cooking* is a culinary tour of discovery - in a small group, you will stroll
across one of the plentiful markets, get to know exotic fruit and vegetables and receive quite a few
insiders' tips first hand. Alternatively, you can join the overland excursion and experience the
unparalleled temple compounds of Angkor* in Cambodia. Here, an abundance of reliefs and filigree
stone figures of all kinds adorn numerous temples. Some of them lie, semi-overgrown by creepers and
trees, hidden in the green twilight of the jungle. Visit the largest sacred complex in the world -
Angkor Wat, an unforgettable, mystic place.
Laem Chabang (Bangkok)/Thailand Re-embarkation of the guests of the overland
excursion to Angkor. What could be more enticing than spending one night in Bangkok*? Immerse
yourself in this fascinating cosmos and discover the pulsating city. Following an overnight stay at the
hotel, you will experience the Temple of the Dawn bathed in the light of the rising sun. The highlights
also include the Holy Temple of the Emerald Buddha and, of course, the magnificent Wat Po. Furthermore,
you will explore the historic district of Bangkok with a traditional tuk-tuk. On the excursion an
overview of Bangkok*, you can visit the old royal palace with the Emerald Buddha revered throughout
the country and also marvel at the lying Buddha of the Wat Po Temple. The stroll through
Pattaya* takes you to one of the most famous dream destinations in Thailand. A vast selection of
fashion, handicraft and exquisite Thai silk augurs some wonderful shopping. And on Jomtien Beach, you
will be swimming under the Thai sun. For an utterly relaxing experience, you may wish to spend a day
on Koh Samed* - on the sunny island, you will have a fabulous time sunbathing and swimming
including lunch on the beach.
Ko Samui/Thailand Thanks to its tropical charm, the remote beaches and an abundance
of coconut palms, Ko Samui can be described as a front garden of paradise. Discover the highlights of
this little island individually according to your own ideas, for instance the Big Buddha in the Wat
Phra Yai, the enormous size of which is sufficient to make your visit worthwhile. Chaweng Beach is a
vision in white - enjoy hours of relaxation on the fine sandy beach and in the warm, turquoise water of
the Gulf of Thailand.
