Kiel Early in the evening, we will depart for a short cruise to
two fascinating metropolises in the far north.
Copenhagen/Denmark Welcome to Denmark's lovely capital city facing the Øresund, the
cosmopolitan "merchants' harbour"! Look forward to magnificent palaces and gardens, but also to trendy
designs, elegant restaurants and enjoyable shopping experiences. In the historic city centre, you will
encounter a wealth of attractions worth seeing, and so there is plenty to discover on the walk
through Copenhagen*. The Little Mermaid longingly gazes at the sea - the petite sculpture modelled
on a fairytale by Hans Christian Andersen has become the city's popular landmark. At Amalienborg
Palace, you have the opportunity to take a look at the home and official seat of the royal family -
with its four palaces, it makes up a pompous ensemble. By contrast, the pretty gabled houses
overlooking the canal of Nyhavn present themselves as cosy and colourful - the numerous cafés and bars
invite you for a little refreshment with a fantastic view of the traditional wooden ships in the canal
and the pedestrians leisurely strolling along the banks. On Kongens Nytorv, the largest square in the
city, the equestrian statue of the man who laid it out, King Christian V, proudly towers in the air.
Here, another sight worthy of your attention is the Royal Theatre, a gorgeous Renaissance building
dating back to the 19th century. Or maybe you would like to embark on a tour through the picturesque
canals of Christianshavn? On the city and harbour tour*, you will transfer to a roofed canal
boat at the old fish market. The trip through the canal system established in the 17th century takes
you past elaborately restored warehouses as well as the houseboats moored at the piers - and shows you
the Little Mermaid as seen from the water.
Oslo/Norway Behind you lie the forested slopes of Nordmarka, and ahead of you, you
can admire the picturesque Oslofjord - even the location of Norway's capital city alone is enchanting.
On the city tour*, you can discover Oslo's multifaceted highlights - for instance the city hall
where the Nobel Peace Prize is awarded on an annual basis, the striking university building or Norway's
awe-inspiring seat of Parliament. A visit to the Vigeland Sculpture Park is equally impressive - the
sculptor Gustav Vigeland shaped it and filled it with many additional art treasures over a period of 40
years. His collection of incredibly expressive and realistic sculptures made of granite, bronze and
wrought iron is unique throughout the world. Subsequently, you might wish to try out the famous
Holmenkollen ski jump - a simulator at the Ski Museum on Oslo's local mountain offers you the
opportunity to do so. The imposing sightseeing flight over Oslo* takes you even higher. From a
bird's perspective, the views of the fjord, the countless little islands and the dense green of the
surrounding forests are simply breathtaking. On the museum island Bygdøy*, you can follow the
trails of the Vikings and courageous adventurers. Bygdøy accommodates the most well-preserved Viking
ships in the world and the "Ra II", the boat made of papyrus with which Thor Heyerdahl sailed from
Morocco to Barbados. Or perhaps you would rather discover Oslo on your own? In the historic district,
you can not only marvel at the city's exposed foundation walls, but also at appealing shops, for
instance along Karl Johans gate. This is also the perfect location for a little refreshment - enjoy the
elegant-casual atmosphere in the Grand Café, where even Henrik Ibsen was a regular in his day. Explore
Oslo's diversity extensively - the COLUMBUS 2 does not expect you back until midnight.
Hamburg What a conclusion - the COLUMBUS 2 arrives in the Port of Hamburg in time
for the Cruise Days, the unique event with a focus on some of the most beautiful cruise ships from all
over the world. Our advice: Stay in the gorgeous Hanseatic city a little longer and enjoy the bon
voyage parade of the ships from the shore in the evening.
*These arrangements are not included in the cruise price. The shore activities listed here are in the
planning stage and are subject to changes.
