La Guaira (Caracas)/Venezuela The COLUMBUS 2 sets course for
wonderful days in Central America.
Willemstad/Curacao A Dutch idyll under palm trees? Welcome to Willemstad, the
gorgeous historic district of which is frequently referred to as "Little Amsterdam". Stroll through the
romantic alleys or accompany us on a leisurely walk through the city*. On the excursion canoe
ride and snorkelling*, you will be enchanted by the Caribbean countryside with its beaches,
mangroves and underwater worlds.
Cartagena/Columbia On Christmas Eve, you will be tempted to discover the fantastic
historic district of Cartagena, behind the mighty walls of which small shops and great historic
buildings such as the Jesuit monastery dating back to the 17th century await you - one of the
destinations of the city tour / guided walk around the city*. The swimming and sunbathing
excursion to the Rosario Islands* offers you the opportunity to experience crystal-clear water,
beautiful beaches and ideal snorkelling territory.
Bocas del Toro/Panama Pristine, colourful and friendly - the little town on the
archipelago in the far northwest of Panama exudes peace and tranquillity. Discover its unhurried
day-to-day life or let a water taxi take you to the long sandy beaches on the east coast of the
island.
Colon/Panama The COLUMBUS 2 reaches the Atlantic entry to the Panama Canal, and you
have time to travel by railway along the Canal* and through the rainforest as far as Balboa. A
visit to the Embera Indians* in the Chagres National Park whose village you will approach with
motor-driven dugout canoes is another fantastic experience.
Daytime passage Panama Canal Look forward to an unforgettable panoramic voyage past
dense jungle and through 46 mighty lock gates. In the course of the passage, the Panama Canal, one of
the most important waterways in the world, confronts the COLUMBUS 2 with a difference in altitude of
around 26 m before the waves of the Pacific welcome you.
Puntarenas/Costa Rica A little train conveniently takes you to the centre of the
port city. Or would you like to experience Costa Rica actively? On the hike in the Carara National
Park*, you will discover the exotic animal and plant kingdom with plenty of different birds,
monkeys, tropical insects and small reptiles. The secrets of the jungle can be explored on paths and
suspension bridges through the rainforest*. From a height of approx. 42 m, you can admire the flora
and fauna from a unique perspective.
San Juan del Sur/Nicaragua The dreamy fishing village and its beaches are the
setting for a wonderful last day of the year. Nature enthusiasts are sure to enjoy the Mombacho
Volcano adventure* - including a hike around the crater rim at an elevation of 1,150 m. Clouds of
smoke emanating from the active crater and magnificent views of Lake Nicaragua await you on the drive
to the Masaya Volcano*. If you join the guided walk around Granada*, which appears like a
Spanish city dating back to the 16th century, you will experience its colonial facades, churches and
convents. A lavish New Year's Eve party aboard the COLUMBUS 2 marks the festive and sparkling end of
the year.
Puerto Quetzal/Guatemala In the afternoon, the black volcanic beaches of nearby
Puerto San Jose may not only attract the Guatemalans from the highlands, but perhaps also you. The
following day, two encounters with the unique heritage of the Maya await you. The flight to the
Tikal National Park* takes you to the pyramids, temples and palaces of the Maya site at the heart
of the rainforest. If you join the flight to the ruined city of Copan in Honduras*, you will
experience the second largest of all classic Maya sites known to date - here, the remnants of mighty
temples and pyramids occupy an entire valley.
Acapulco/Mexico Following a landscape tour to Mexico City, you will embark on your
return journey.
