Papeete/Tahiti Come aboard in Papeete and enjoy your South Seas
cruise with the COLUMBUS 2.
Moorea/Society Islands In the morning, the COLUMBUS 2 leaves Tahiti and sets course
for the neighbouring island of Moorea, the beauty of which is already visible from afar. Aboard the
sailing catamaran* "Margouillat", you will approach the island's north coast with two of the
most scenic bays in Polynesia, the Bay of Cook and Opunohu Bay - fabulous territory for sailing and
snorkelling amidst the coral garden of the lagoon. Right through Moorea's tropical vegetation, the
jeep ride* takes you to a mystic place - Paopao Valley accommodates the stone witnesses of an
old Polynesian cult site. The observation point Belvedere rewards you with wonderful views across the
Bay of Cook. On Magic Mountain, you will even see the entire island lying at your feet.
Bora Bora/Society Islands Mai Te Pora - the old name of Bora Bora translates as
"created by the Gods". Once you set eyes on the marvellous lagoon with the green volcanic island in the
middle of it, you will soon understand why. The crystal-clear water glistens in all conceivable shades
of blue, and if you opt to go snorkelling in the lagoon*, the full glory of the exotic fish and
corals will be revealed to you. With a little luck, you will even be able to watch stingrays up close.
You can also experience the iridescent underwater world without getting wet - join the tour by
glass-bottom boat* to the edge of the reef of the lagoon. Paradisiacal views of the lush landscape
await you on the excursion with Le Truck, an open vehicle that allows you to gather impressions of
Bora Bora*.
Aitutaki/Cook Islands The tranquil isle has a surface area of merely 20 km2 and can
be explored individually or on the excursion island impressions*. The great treasure of Aitutaki
is the stunningly beautiful Blue Lagoon* with its little motus. These tiny uninhabited isles are
virtually made for swimming, snorkelling, a fish barbecue or simply dreaming without any
disruptions.
Rarotonga/Cook Islands Due to its lush vegetation, the largest of the Cook Islands
is also called "flower island". On the sightseeing flight over the island*, you can marvel at
this gorgeous South Seas beauty from a breathtaking perspective. If you join the jungle hike with
Pa*, a native of Polynesia, you will encounter endemic plants, medicinal herbs and the animals that
live here. The boat trip through the Muri Lagoon* with a glass-bottom boat takes you to one of
the little motus. Relaxing on the beach or admiring the colourful underwater world through diving
goggles - the decision is yours.
Nuku'alofa/Tonga The "island of love" is the seat of government of Tonga's royal
family. Therefore, the history and culture of Tonga* not only features dances typical of the
country, but also the royal palace built in 1867 and the royal graves. A relaxed South Seas atmosphere
awaits you on the excursion swimming on Pangai Motu*, a small tropical island that invites you
to sunbathe under palm trees as well as swim and snorkel.
Lautoka/Fiji An Indian Hare Krishna temple in the South Seas? Nothing unusual on
Fiji. In the 19th century, the English invited Indians to the country to work the sugar cane fields,
and Indians make up almost 40% of the population to the present day. Experience day-to-day life in a
small Fijian village on a jeep ride to the Nausori highland*. En route, magnificent views of the
surrounding islands await you. A jetboat trip* across the Denarau River takes you right to the
heart of the island's mangrove forests.
Ile des Pins/New Caledonia In actual fact, what Captain James Cook caught sight of
here back in his day were not pines, but Araucaria trees. That aside, however, the "island of pines" is
truly paradisiacal - snow-white beaches and the crystal-clear, iridescent turquoise water of the lagoon
augur a magnificent day on the "jewel of the Pacific".
Nouméa/New Caledonia Once the COLUMBUS 2 has passed the coral banks off the coast
of the island Grande Terre, the capital Nouméa will be within your reach. Here, you will encounter a
combination of South Seas romanticism and French esprit on the leisurely train ride through
Nouméa*, for instance in the old Faubourg Blanchot district with its colonial-style houses. Is it
possible to surpass moments like these? Yes - on a helicopter flight* that offers spectacular
views of the city, the lagoon, the bays and the beaches as far as Amedee Lighthouse Island.
Sydney/Australia Have a look at the famous opera house in the harbour and the
highlights of the Australian metropolis before embarking on your return journey.
