The Colourful Splendour of the Amazon
Region The Breves Channels greet you with a
labyrinth of waterways in the eternal green of the South American lowlands.
While the BREMEN glides through the river delta, you will be preparing yourself
for unique discoveries along the banks of the Amazon. Depending on the weather
and the flow conditions, our Zodiacs will be in constant operation to bring you
close up to the unique diversity of the Amazon. Countless species of monkeys
inhabit the treetops of the tropical rainforest, and aras, toucans and Andean
cocks-of-the-rock draw attention to themselves with their splendid array of
coloured feathers. However, your Zodiac rides also enable you to discover
well-camouflaged jungle inhabitants such as South American tapirs, sloths and
iguanas together with your experts. |
A Habitat of Fascinating Diversity On your expeditions, the
branches of the greatest river system in the world are revealed to you in a very
intensive way. The inhabitants of the villages Maraii and
Gurupa make you very welcome and grant you an insight into their
life on the banks of the mighty river. Once you reach the mouth of the Rio
Guajara, you may catch sight of the mysterious pink river dolphins or a
group of agile squirrel monkeys. In the heart of the Brazilian jungle, you will be
greeted by Caribbean flair. Relax on one of the white beaches of Alter do
Chao and bathe in the clear water of the Rio Tapajos. On the large river
island of Tupinambarana, you can explore the town of Parintins.
Here, the Brazilian joie de vivre awaits you in its pure form: accompany us to the
samba show "Bumba-meu-boi" with drums and dancing. Numerous Zodiac rides and
landings, amongst others in Canacari and Lago do
Rei, provide you with intensive insights into the flora and fauna along
the Amazon. Victoria amazonica, the giant water lily, is regarded as being one of
the great wonders of nature. Its leaves reach a diameter of up to 3 m and can even
carry a person. On your expedition, you will perceive a true jungle concert time
and time again. The exotic sounds of trogons and tyrant birds are only drowned
sometimes by the loud call of the howler monkeys. A unique natural spectacle is
presented to you by the "Meeting of the Waters": here, the dark Rio Negro flows
together with the loamy yellow Rio Solimões. Due to their different densities, the
Amazon now flows towards its delta in two colours for several kilometres. On a
panoramic flight* over the jungle metropolis
Manaus, you can take a look at this fascinating picture from a
bird's eye view. Or discover evidence of the city's time of prosperity on a
city tour*. The former world capital of rubber was called "Paris
of the Tropics", in particular in view of its magnificent opera house. |
The Highlights of the Upper Amazon In the numerous branches of
the Amazon, the Zodiacs are in their element, and the breathtaking natural
surroundings are once again at the centre of attention. Sloths, capybaras and
nocturnal opossums have their refuges in the damp banks, and with a lot of luck you
may even sight the Tamandua, a type of anteater. These are unique moments you will
experience not only in Badajos, but also on the Ilha da
Botija and in Cuxiu Muni . Our Amazon expert will keenly
explain to you the interconnections of the sensitive ecosystem and introduce you to
the bizarre world of reptiles and insects. Upstream, your expedition will take you
deeper and deeper into the tropical rainforest. During a Zodiac ride on the narrow
Rio Jutai , you will once again experience the lush jungle
vegetation particularly intensively. Yagua and Ticuna Indians, the indigenous
inhabitants of the Amazon region, still live in harmony with nature. A visit to the
cultural centre in the Colombian city Leticia offers you insights
into the eventful past of the region. From the Peruvian Pevas , we
will travel along the Rio Ampyacu to the tribes that sometimes still go out to hunt
with blow-pipes and poisoned arrows. The Bora and Huitoto Indians will grant you an
insight into their life on and with the river. Here, more than 3,000 km away from
the mouth, your Amazon expedition will come to a fascinating close. |
A change in itinerary may become necessary on this expedition on the Amazon. The
captain will decide on the best possible alternatives depending on local
