Welcome to the "Danish South Seas" Thanks to its picturesque bays, dreamy
little towns and the deep blue sea, southern Denmark's multifaceted island world is also referred
to as the "Danish South Seas". With the BREMEN, you can discover this popular sailing area which is
still only rarely visited by cruise ships and therefore considered an insiders' tip among
passionate discoverers. You will be fascinated by the appeal of the pristine islands - for instance
on Funen, where you will visit the little port town Faaborg. Only very few towns in Denmark
have a similarly scenic location. See for yourself and enjoy the Danish savoir-vivre - on a walk
along cobblestone streets taking you through the mediaeval town gate to historic merchants'
buildings, pretty town houses as well as small cafés and shops. An ideal start to this brief, but
wonderful journey into the world of expedition cruises.
Perhaps in the company of some porpoises, the BREMEN sets course for Ærø. Have you been
wondering why the latter is known as a dream island in the "Danish South Seas"? In all likelihood
because of its enchanting landscape with ranges of gently sloping, green hills, secluded beaches
and a craggy steep coast. Certainly, however, also because of the charm of the "fairytale town" of
Ærøskøbing, off the coast of which the BREMEN will drop anchor. The little trade town owes its
epithet to the up to 400-year-old yellow, red and ochre houses. After we have landed with the
Zodiacs, you can stroll through the historic alleys or marvel at the treasures of bygone times at
the Ærø Museum.
Ruegen: Splendid Seaside Resort Architecture If you get up in the early morning
hours to the call of the seagulls, it is worth your while going on deck - in good weather, the
famous white chalk cliffs of the island of Møn literally sparkle at you before you catch a
first glimpse of Germany's largest island at lunchtime. In Binz on Ruegen, you will
experience the sophisticated elegance of the legendary resort on the coast of the Baltic Sea. Let
your gaze wander from the pier to the beach promenade and marvel at the elaborately adorned seaside
resort-style guest houses along the gorgeous promenade. The venerable health spa Binz is a
particularly outstanding highlight of the latter. Both the sight of and the views from the hunting
castle Granitz which you will visit on the trails of Prince Wilhelm-Malte I zu Putbus* are
magnificent. The landmark of the island is revealed to you on the excursion Ruegen's north -
walk to the Koenigsstuhl*. From the vantage point "Viktoria-Sicht", you will enjoy the best
view of the famous chalk cliff promontory.
The Home of the Little Mermaid With its unparalleled charm, Copenhagen
is considered one of the most adorable and livable European metropolises. There are plenty of ways
of exploring the residential city of the kings. For instance on the tour to the most beautiful
sights of the royal city*. Among others, these also include the Tivoli Gardens, the national
museum and the futuristic Copenhagen Opera House, one of the most modern stages in the world. The
subsequent boat tour will reveal to you an entirely different perspective of Denmark's capital
city. Alternatively, you could opt for a walk through charming Copenhagen* and stroll along
the port promenade to Amalienborg Palace and to the former sailors' district Nyhavn. Here, a
cheerful trendy quarter has developed amidst the colourful little houses with the pointed gables.
Wherever your discoveries may take you - Copenhagen will be the crowning finale of a short, but
very special cruise.
