A Magical Outset The island worlds in the North Atlantic are enshrouded by
numerous myths - and you may decide as soon as we arrive in Southampton: to the ravens of
the Tower of London* or to the mysterious magic of the historic site Stonehenge*? The
Isles of Scilly are similarly legendary and believed to be the final resting place of King
Arthur. The fact that more than 4,000 exotic plants thrive on Tresco, however, is attributed to
another wealthy gentleman. Irish fairytales come true on a walk through Cork - look forward
to Victorian townhouses, little alleys and the church tower of Shandon, where you may ring the bell
yourself. Whether home of the fairies or seat of the kings of Munster - the legends surrounding the
Rock of Cashel and Saint Patrick* are fascinating. Visit the impressive castle which is one
of Ireland's main sightseeing attractions and towers over the green meadows as though out of this
world. By comparison, the story told about the siege of Kinsale* almost seems young - find
out all about it during a visit!
Magnificent Nature Along Green Coasts As soon as steep rocks appear on the
horizon like sunken mountains, you may expect one thing at all times - new discoveries with the
Zodiacs almost every day and a crew that takes you as close to these beauties as possible. The
fluttering "chaos" of the second largest gannet colony in the world on the jagged rocks of
Little Skellig will already captivate your attention from afar. Breathtaking nature also
awaits you on a Zodiac tour off the coast of Great Skellig, where the establishment of the
mediaeval monastery continues to present a mystery. Further north, the Dingle Peninsula protrudes
into the sea like a pointing finger. Land with the Zodiacs and set out on the hike up Mount
Brandon*, which rises straight out of the sea. Explore the picturesque little town of
Dingle on your own or discover the appealing landscape of the Ring of Dingle*.
The deck of the BREMEN is your box seat for impressive sights while cruising off the Cliffs of
Moher, which drop into the sea almost vertically from heights of more than 200 m. The fissures
in the rock accommodate the nests of countless seabirds, which might accompany you for a while
along the steep coast. An unadulterated expedition experience awaits you vis-a-vis - on the rugged
cliffs of the Aran Islands, the wind and the weather determine the day. In the course of the
latter, you will conquer this rough region with the Zodiacs and visit the famous fort Dún Aengus.
Irish charm wafts through the colourful streets of Galway. Stroll through the lively heart
of the city or explore Irish country life and literature*. The romantic bogland will be
revealed to you in Connemara - county full of contrast*, where the breathtakingly beautiful
Kylemore Abbey lies hidden between mountains and lakes. After marvelling at the cliffs of Slieve
League and if the weather is favourable, you will land with the Zodiacs on Tory Island.
You now have the opportunity to explore the island with its craggy rock faces where oystercatchers,
lapwings, corncrakes, peregrine falcons, Atlantic puffins and Northern gannets incubate their eggs
- to name but a few ...
Tales of Faraway Islands As remote as the Scottish Outer Hebrides may
appear - the prehistoric stone circles of Callanish* which you will discover after setting
out from Stornoway bear witness to a long history. Subsequently, the BREMEN takes two days'
time for the fjords of the Faroe Islands. Look foward to spectacular impressions as you make
your way through the skerry landscape with the Zodiacs and the BREMEN cruises off the coast of
islands such as Sudroy - a genuine paradise for birds. Marvel at the colourful wooden houses
in Torshavn and visit the 1,000-year-old village of Kvivik*. Alternatively, you may
wish to go on a hike* to the columnar basalt of Streymoy Sill. Towards the finale of your
cruise, you will catch sight of Iceland. Heimaey, one of the Westman Islands off Iceland's
south coast, was devastated by a volcanic eruption 40 years ago. On an island tour*, you
will comprehend why the fishermen are nevertheless so grateful to the "mountain of fire" that
formed in 1973. When the BREMEN cruises off the volcanic island of Surtsey, your discoveries
in Europe's wild west will come to an end - and you will take unforgettable impressions back home
with you.
