Disembarkation
Breathtaking Diversity along South America's Main Artery In the
middle of the rainforest, over 3,000 km from the mouth of the Amazon, you will
board the BREMEN in Iquitos . Ahead of you lie the secrets of the
evergreen Amazon rainforest that you will explore by Zodiac on numerous trips
and landings - of course always depending on the weather and flow conditions.
You might spot lively capuchin monkeys in the crowns of the cannonball trees on
your way to Pevas. A boat trip through lush jungle landscapes takes you
to the hidden villages of the Bora and Huitoto Indians who perform their
traditional rites to this day. The small heritage museum in Leticia will
give you fascinating insights into the history of the indigenous population.
Following this, a visit to the artist Francisco Grippa will enable you to
admire his works, and even when enjoying a drink in the famous Tio Tom Bar, the
melody of the jungle will accompany you.
Magical Impressions of the Amazon The days ahead have a
wealth of magical moments waiting for you. Numerous Zodiac rides, such as to
the Rio Jutai, Cuxiu Muni, Ilha da Botija and
Badajos take you to the treasures of Amazonia. Look forward to wonderful
encounters with nature: kingfishers and hummingbirds fly through the air,
capybaras live on the banks and, with a little luck, you may spot caimans and
the famous botos, the pink river dolphins of the Amazon, in the river shallows.
In the treetops of the tropical rainforest howler monkeys noisily draw
attention to themselves and a tapir might appear in the dense green of the
forest. The giant water lily Victoria amazonica is one of many remarkable
plants about which your expert will be able to relate interesting information.
The BREMEN heads for a special natural spectacle: the merging of the Rio
Solimoes and the Rio Negro. The "white" and "black" rivers join south of
Manaus and, due to their differing density, flow for several kilometres
in two colours beside one another until they finally mix. In the jungle
metropolis, architectural highlights such as the world-famous Teatro Amazonas
with its prominent dome await you. On a city tour*, you will discover
further evidence of the heyday of the rubber trade.
Fascinating Experiences in the Tropics Discover the
breathtaking species diversity of Amazonia on your landings and Zodiac rides to
places such as Canacari and Furo dos Botos. Our Zodiacs are in
their element in the narrow rivers. They glide effortlessly deep into an almost
untouched world where black caimans are the true rulers. You can also
experience some impressive sights from our expedition inflatables in twilight.
Listen to a tropical midnight serenade in the light show of glow worms, which
is very different to the sounds in the daytime. Nocturnal hunters such as
jaguars are on the prowl and the prehensile-tailed porcupine, a tree-dwelling
relative of the guinea pig, relies on its covering of spines as protection
against predators during its nightly hunt for food. Whether by day or night,
nature has new and amazing impressions waiting for you at every bend of the
river. On the river island of Tupinambarana you can discover the history of
Parintins and listen to samba - let the rhythms of Brazil take you by
surprise. Further downstream you arrive at Alter do Chao. Fine sandy
beaches and the crystal clear water of the Rio Tapajos are inviting places to
spend some happy Caribbean hours on the beach. In Guajara you can again
discover the indescribable species diversity of the tropics aboard the Zodiacs.
To end your spectacular expedition, the narrow winding waterways of the
Breves Channels will enchant you and complete your picture of the
fascinating world of Amazonia.
A change in itinerary may become necessary on this expedition on the
