Overwhelming Natural Phenomena at the End of the World
Ushuaia to Callao - MS Bremen - February 29 - March 16
, 2012
Voyage BRE1204
In the language of the Aymara people, Chile means "country at the end of the
world“. On the BREMEN, it translates into "the beginning of a spectacular expedition". Set
course for an untouched region which is characterised by majestic mountain peaks, magnificent
glaciers and endless lakes.

Patagonia - Following in the Tracks of
Magellan Let the BREMEN take you deep into the complex island and
fjord landscapes along Chile's coast. Discover an almost pristine region of
ancient beauty. Zodiac rides will provide you with one exciting surprise after
another. Just after setting out, the BREMEN heads for the Beagle Channel
with the impressive bright blue Garibaldi Glacier. Its surroundings are
amazing, the fauna species-rich. In Punta Arenas, an excursion to
Fort Bulnes* helps you understand the town's history. You can also enjoy
a magnificent view of the Magellan Strait which was discovered by the
Portuguese sailor Ferdinand Magellan on his voyage round the world. On a
hike through Magellan National Park* accompanied by an expert, you will
unveil quite a few secrets of the unique flora and fauna, whilst on Isla
Magdalena, the focus is on a single species: the Magellanic penguin. The
island is inhabited by thousands of these inquisitive little creatures in
tailcoats. |
Natural Phenomena in the South of Chile A breathtaking view of
the Chilean fjords opens up during the cruise through the Kirke Narrows. The BREMEN
then heads for Puerto Natales. A full day tour in the
Torres del Paine* National Park reveals magnificent scenery, with
aquamarine-blue lakes, rushing rivers, extensive forests and strange rocky
pinnacles, the famous Torres. Their enormous granite faces steeply rise to heights
of up to 3,000 m and glitter in the sun in an almost surreal beauty. With a bit of
luck you could even spot an Andean condor circling high overhead. Rheas, flamingos,
Magellan geese and over 100 other species of birds can also be seen. Starting out
from an estancia, a horseback ride through the pampa* will let you
experience nature particularly intensively. Your Patagonian impressions will be
crowned by an absolute highlight: the Pio XI Glacier. |
Magnificent Vistas around Perto Montt and Niebla After a
daytime cruise through the Chilean fjords, a sightseeing flight* over the
region around Puerto Montt allows you to look down on snow-covered volcanic
cones, lush meadows and deep-blue lakes. You can also visit Chile's Lake District
with the beautiful All Saints Lake, the Lago Todos los Santos, on a trip on the
famous Pan-American Highway*. This unbelievable road runs from Alaska to Tierra
del Fuego through the entire New World like a symbol of the love of adventure.
Evidence of the pioneering spirit of German immigrants in Niebla is still
visible in the colonial timber mansions from the 19th century, Chile's first
brewery and the museum of German immigration. Alternatively, you can devote your
time to the amazing vegetation in the Cerro Oncol Park. One of our experts will be
happy to accompany you on this hike through the rainforest*. |
The Charm of Chilean Cities Let Valparaiso and Vina del
Mar* cast their spell on you. The former is considered the country's cultural
capital, the historic city centre of which has been declared a UNESCO World
Cultural Heritage Site. Vina del Mar, on the other hand, developed into a stylish
seaside resort in the late 19th century. In the metropolis of Santiago*,
besides the buildings of the colonial period, the agenda also includes a visit to
the Museum of Pre-Columbian Art. |
Unforgettable - the Pacific Islands and Peru Encounters like these are
only possible thanks to our Zodiacs: watch Humboldt penguins and turkey vultures on
your visit to the Isla Damas. A Zodiac ride around the Isla Chanaral
brings you very close to fur seals, sea otters and Peruvian boobies. You will then
see sea lions, pelicans and cormorants on a Zodiac ride to the Isla Pan de
Azucar National Park, where landing is not permitted. The last excursion of
your Chilean expedition takes you from Matarani in Peru to the Lagunas de
Mejia*, a unique bird reserve. |
