Wander along the promenade in the footsteps of the Russian aristocrats who graced their favourite resort with elegant buildings. The southern Crimean coast** offers unforgettable moments surrounded by subtropical green: the Swallow’s Nest, the landmark of the region, towers high above the cliffs. The Romanov palaces**, which played host to historical events including the Yalta Conference in 1945, exude historical spirit.

Marvel at the stadiums built around Sochi for the Winter Olympics. On a hike through the Caucasian National Park**, your path will lead through dense forests of box and yew. Alternatively, visit Stalin’s former holiday home** where the interior has been preserved.

Rapid growth and stylish luxury hotels: experience the flair and modern architecture of this young university city on an excursion and marvel at the Botanical Garden** with around 5,000 species of plants.

Set out from this port city and visit the abandoned Sumela Monastery**. It is located a spectacular 1,300 m above the ground in the heart of a colossal mountain, and is home to historic murals, frescoes and icons.
