Far East - Meditation & Emergence in Asia - Ho Chi Minh City to
Rangoon MS Europa - March 9-23,
2012
Buddhism is deeply rooted in the lives of the natives, and the
monuments built in Burma in honour of it are simply impressive. In Cambodia, too, the lotus
towers of a unique monument of faith reach for the sky, and temple dancers made of stone bring
1,000 years of history to life. Malaysia presents itself between butterflies and skyscrapers.
Last but not least, the beaches on the Gulf of Thailand augur relaxation at its best - a happy
time in Asia.
Highlights of this cruise • UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site: Angkor Wat*

Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)/Vietnam Come to Vietnam a little earlier and
experience our pre-cruise programme*: Saigon - Gem of the Far East. After you
have embarked on the EUROPA and spent your first night on board, you can explore the Cu Chi
tunnels* and thus the country's more recent history or the architectural heritage of the
colonial era on the occasion of a panoramic trip*. Alternatively, you may opt to set out on a
three-day overland excursion to Cambodia's largest temple complex with us. The
five proud lotus towers of Angkor Wat* are the most famous symbol of this unique heritage of
the ancient Khmer culture. However, the mysterious stone faces of the Bayon and Ta Som, which
is partly overgrown by jungle vegetation, also offer unforgettable sights. In Kampong Saom, you
will subsequently board the EUROPA again.
Kampong Saom (Sihanoukville)/Cambodia The seaside resort on the Gulf of
Thailand is also called Sihanoukville and invites you to enjoy life on an exquisite hotel
beach*. Alternatively, you can get to know Cambodia's pulsating capital city Phnom
Penh* today. Behind a wall which is several kilometres long, painted roofs and golden
spires make it easy to recognise the Royal Palace. The Silver Pagoda
floored with more than 5,000 silver tiles is to be found here, too. At the
National Museum, remarkable sculptures from the time of the Khmer await you.
Ko Samui/Thailand The EUROPA sets course for Ko Samui and will be lying at
anchor off the coast of the tropical paradise for the night. The following day, you have the
opportunity to relax and unwind on Chaweng Beach*.
Singapore/Singapore "Singa Pura" - Lion City - is the name an Indian prince
gave to what is now a dazzling megametropolis a very long time. The landmark of the city* is
still the Merlion, a creature with the head of a lion and the body of a fish. However,
lively Chinatown or the exclusive shopping street Orchard Road are also
characteristic of multifaceted Singapore. The city offers an impressive sight from above if you
look at it from the Singapore Flyer*, one of the tallest Ferris wheels in the world with a
height of 165 metres. Finally, you might be interested in seeing a treasure from Singapore's
colonial past - Raffles Hotel, where you will experience a stylish tea
time*.
Port Kelang (Kuala Lumpur)/Malaysia The inhabitants simply refer to the
capital of Malaysia as "KL". You will have the opportunity to see many of the megacity's
facets, including the Royal Palace, the colourful butterflies and birds in the Lake Gardens
and, of course, the Petronas Towers, the tallest twin towers in the world.
Discover Kuala Lumpur* on a tour and visit the Hindu temple in the Batu Caves*.
Bass Harbour/Langkawi/Malaysia On Langkawi*, the main island of the
archipelago, you can take a look at the vast Andaman Sea from lofty heights - at 687 m
above sea level, the Sky Bridge* on Mount Mat Cincang offers magnificent views. The
native Bumiputras also like to live at a certain distance above the ground - visit a typical
Malay house built on stilts. Or would you like to simply relax on one of the divine island
beaches?
Phuket/Thailand The pearl of the Andaman Sea is mainly popular because of
its beaches. However, it has much more to offer: Wat Chalong* is considered
the largest and presumably the most beautiful temple on the island. In the north of Phuket, you
will be impressed by a jewel of nature which already magically attracted 007 - the
picturesque Phang Nga Bay* with the famous James Bond Island.
Rangoon/Burma (Myanmar) For two nights, the EUROPA will be lying at anchor
off the coast of Burma's former capital city. As we approach the latter, the country's most
significant sanctuary glows in the evening light - the golden Shwedagon Pagoda*, a
pilgrimage site for Buddhists from all over the world and a fascinating place of meditation
and tranquillity. The following day, you will get to know the city intensively and also visit
the Chauk Htat Gyi Pagoda with a 72 m long reclining Buddha. Alternatively, you can fly to
the ancient city of kings Bagan*. More than 2,000 sacred monuments such as the Shwezigon
Pagoda or the approximately 1,000-year-old Ananda Temple are an impressive legacy of Burma's
history - and a unique sight. Following one last overnight stay on board, you will embark on
your journey back to Germany or stay on to experience the post-cruise programme* Bangkok -
City of Angels.
