Rosendal, Norway - The little town is situated on the banks of one of Norway’s most beautiful fjords. Even the famous composer Edvard Grieg immortalised the Hardangerfjord with his music back in his day. Thanks to the mild climate, the glorious landscape is an important Norwegian fruit-growing region. An overland excursion to Eidfjord* takes you through this marvellous scenery, past thundering waterfalls up to the Hardanger Plateau. A hike to the surroundings* starts in Sunndal and ends on the shore of Lake Bondhus – with fantastic vistas of the glacier offshoot Bondhusbreen.

Eidfjord, Norway - On the southern shore of the fjord of the same name, you will change from one “boat” to another – experience Norway’s nature during a kayak trip* on Lake Eidfjord. Alternatively, you could set out for the Hardangervidda Nature Centre* and enjoy the wonderful sight of the mighty waterfall Voringfossen plunging down from a height of 182 m.
Thu 5-Jul-2013 Alesund, Norway 13.30 – 24.00 hrs
In 1904, the town was destroyed by a fire. The German Emperor Kaiser Wilhelm II, a great fan of Norway, was one of the first supporters to send money for its reconstruction. Today, Alesund is regarded as the capital of art nouveau*, and you will be thrilled by its architectural glory during a walk through the historic district. At the Art Nouveau Centre, the history of the reconstruction is retraced by means of multimedia exhibitions. A visit to the wonderful island world* off the coast takes you across bridges to Giske and to the lighthouse of Godoy. Subsequently, the drive to the top of Alesund’s local mountain Aksla allows you to comtemplate the area from up high – look forward to an impressive panorama.

In the south of Lofoten*, the idyllic villages Nusfjord* and A exude their unparalleled ambiance, and the stockfish museum provides information about fishing on and around the Lofoten Islands. In the small fishing museum of Sund*, a collection of boats, furnishings and household goods from the old rorbu huts of the fishermen has been affectionately compiled. Using a fishing rod yourself is also a great experience – with a little luck, you might catch a cod or salmon while fishing on the Lofoten Islands*.

At the experience centre Polaria*, you can even hike through a simulated Arctic snowstorm.
