Dream Destinations for Discoverers: Yap and Palau
The hectic pace of the world is unheard of at the turquoise blue lagoons of Micronesia. Bizarre limestone walls are overgrown with primeval forests, and the iridescent coral gardens are home to an untouched diversity of life. The traditional culture of the inhabitants has also been preserved. Yap, which you can explore on an island tour*, is particularly pristine. Marvel at the circular stone money banks in front of the houses or take a look at the exotic underwater world of the Pacific while snorkelling in the Philippine Sea*.
Mon 14-Apr-2014 - 15-Apr-2014 Palau
Unforgettable observations above and below the surface of the water also await you in the intricate island world of Palau. Between islets that jut out of the glistening blue and green sea like abundantly overgrown heads of mushrooms, the HANSEATIC sets course for the former capital Koror. From there, you can start out to explore the floating gardens* of the fantastic Rock Islands – bizarre coral islands that make up one of the most beautiful snorkelling territories in the world. You have the opportunity to admire exotic birds and primeval mangroves en route before snorkelling in the Jelly Fish Lake*. Here, you will swim amidst hundreds of thousands of jellyfish – an overwhelming sight and a unique experience.
Wed 16-Apr-2014 - 17-Apr-2014 Relaxation at sea
Fri 18-Apr-2014 Bohol/Philippines
Exotic Diversity of the Philippines
The lively province capital Tagbilaran on the island of Bohol is your gateway to the wonders of the island state. The excursion to the Chocolate Hills* takes you to incredible formations that protrude from the landscape like thousands of identical molehills. They owe their name to the brown colour during the dry period. Following a river trip through the jungle, you will encounter peculiar forest inhabitants - tarsiers. Alternatively, walks along the beach and an enchanting limestone cave await you on Panglao Island*.
Sat 19-Apr-2014 Malapascua Island
The following day, you can enjoy the wonderful island idyll on the white beach of Malapascua Island before the HANSEATIC continues to head for virgin territory.
Sun 20-Apr-2014 - 22-Apr-2014 Calamian Group (Dicalubuan Island , Busuanga , Culion , Sangat Island , North Cay )
After all, only few adventurers before you have been audacious enough to travel as far as the islands of the Calamian Group. With her shallow draught, the manoeuvrable HANSEATIC is virtually made for the route through lagoons of limited depth and past vertical limestone cliffs. Where cashews grow, wild peacocks live and white sand attracts the eye, the Zodiacs are flexibly lowered into the water, allowing you to intensively explore untouched natural paradises such as Dicalubuan Island. To experience the entire beauty of the archipelago, it is worthwhile making your way to the top of Mount Tayas on the island of Busuanga – especially when the sun gradually disappears in the ocean, creating a marvellous play of colours. Fantastic views also await you on the island tour of Coron with blue lagoon*. In the densely forested interior of the island – exactly opposite Busuanga – treasures such as the bright turquoise crater lake Kayangan are hiding, to the bottom of which you can see and where you can spot glistening stalactites. Off the coasts of Culion, you will get close to the mangrove forests with the Zodiacs and also discover the chequered history of the little isle. Sangat Island has almost remained as untouched as it was when it emerged from the sea millions of years ago – therefore, it is not surprising that kingfishers, monkeys and monitor lizards show no signs of being timid in the jungle. Following the passage past densely overgrown and bizarrely eroded rocks, you can once again enjoy a true spirit of adventure in the crystal-clear bay of North Cay.
Wed 23-Apr-2014 Apo Reef , Pandan Islands
Magical Underwater Worlds
Look forward to immersing yourself in the water amidst gorgeous tropical fish at one of the most magnificent reefs or to relaxing on the white sandy beach – the Apo Reef is part of the protected Apo Reef Marine Natural Park. If you decide to go snorkelling, you have a good chance of encountering sea turtles. As a crowning finale, the Pandan Islands invite you to admire the local pandan plants during a walk along the beach before you bid the pristine world of the Pacific farewell in Manila.
