Spanish Masterworks With its Gothic and
oriental influences, the city of Valencia offers a lively kaleidoscope
of multifaceted impressions, which you can experience in all their intensity
during a walk around the city*. If you opt for the expert excursion:
Valencia, city of art *, the programme includes a visit to the Museum of
Fine Arts, conducted by Dr Dr Volker Gebhardt. Here you will discover Spanish
masters like Ribalta and Goya in a completely new light. Dr Dr Gebhardt will
join you in focusing on the art of music during the expert excursion: Guided
tour of the opera house of Calatrava* - admire the futuristic building of
steel and concrete which resembles a gigantic eye. Catalonia's capital
Tarragona can look back on two millennia of history. Its archaeological
ensemble has won it the status of a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. On the
walk through the historic district of Tarragona* you will get a view of
- amongst other beauties - the perfectly preserved ancient city walls.
Alternatively, the expert excursion: Mosaics of late antiquity in Centcelles
and the royal monasteries of Santes Creus* with Dr Dr Volker Gebhardt will
take you on an exciting journey through time, including visits to an ancient
mausoleum and to impressive Cistercian monasteries. |
French Inspiration The little fishing village of Collioure makes
such an idyllic impression, it looks like the backdrop to a vintage film. From
here, you can set out on your expert excursion: Masterpieces of the Romanesque
era and the castles of the Cathars*. You will get to know one of the region's
most famous sons on the excursion Banyuls including the Aristide Maillol Museum
and wine tasting*. The museum gives a retrospective view of the creative work
of the artist, who had an important influence on European sculpture. The French
national anthem came into existence in Marseille. You will be enthused on
the city tour*, especially when you visit the old port of the city founded
by the Greeks. You can also enjoy the scent of Provence on the landscape tour
with guided walk around Aix-en-Provence*. It was in these parts that Vincent
van Gogh found his inspiration. Find out more about his activities during the
expert excursion: In the footsteps of the Romans and van Gogh*. |
Gems of the Mediterranean For the first time ever, the HANSEATIC will
be calling at the port of St. Raphael on the Côte d'Azur. This famous
coastline with its picturesque towns has been attracting the great and the good of
this world for more than 50 years. Particularly charming locations are St.
Tropez and Port Grimaud*, the latter with architecture that imitates a Venetian
lagoon settlement. You will encounter fascinating works of great artists with Dr Dr
Volker Gebhardt on the expert excursion: The great masters of modern art*.
This includes a visit to the Chapelle du Rosaire, the last work of Henri Matisse.
Furthermore, you will also be enchanted by the Maeght Foundation, to which both
Matisse and Joan Miró contributed - a wonderful building complex with gardens
showing statues and sculptures by famous artists. In the late afternoon you rejoin
the HANSEATIC in Monte Carlo. Enjoy a fantastically beautiful evening and
saunter past one of the most famous casinos in the world. Calvi on Corsica,
by contrast, is far from the madding crowd. Relax on the walk through
Calvi* or join the landscape tour of the Corsican mountain villages*
and enjoy sampling the regional cuisine. |
An Italian Journey Due to its unique location and the natural harbour,
Genoa has ben popular throughout the eras. On the expert excursion:
Genoa, UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site*, Dr Volker Gebhardt will
knowledgeably introduce you to Renaissance and baroque art treasures.
Alternatively, an excursion to the Italian Riviera and Portofino* takes you
along the Ligurian coast, continuing to Portofino by boat. Portofino's natural
harbour amidst an enchanting landscape presents a delightful final
destination. |
