Pristine Nature and Alaska's Inside
Passage Fascinating ice panoramas are offered by the Chenega
Glacier and in Yakutat Bay by the Hubbard Glacier. Here, you
will encounter various species of seal on the drifting ice floes. In Alaska's
Inside Passage, one impressive view after another awaits you. This is
one of the most beautiful waterway passages in the world. An exceptionally
authentic spot of Earth in the midst of the wilderness is the fishing village
of Pelican. With the Zodiacs, you will land in this remote settlement
with its scattered wooden houses. The HANSEATIC then proceeds through the
picturesque South Inian Pass to reach Point Adolphus, a popular haunt of
whale families in summer. You can watch out for the mighty marine mammals from
the deck. This expedition also takes you to Juneau, the Alaskan capital.
Provided the weather is favourable, you can try a glacier flight and dogsled
trip* on the Mendenhall Glacier just outside the gates of the city, and
enjoy unforgettable views of the deep blue crevices in the ice field. These
also offer a fascinating sight when viewed from the water during an
inflatable boat trip past the Mendenhall*. Or join the experts on a
boat trip and hike in the rainforest*. In the heritage-protected area of
Skagway, on the other hand, everything is reminiscent of the times of
the gold-diggers. If you take a helicopter sightseeing flight over the
glaciers*, you can enjoy Alaska's wilderness from the point of view of the
bald eagle. An altogether different, but equally overwhelming perspective
reveals itself to you on a ride with the historic White Pass & Yukon
Route Railway*, which takes you through the spectacular region of the
Chilkoot Trail. The Tracy Arms is a secret known only to insiders and
perhaps Alaska's most beautiful fjord. While cruising with the HANSEATIC, you
can enjoy fabulous views of the steep rock walls which rise up to 1400
metres. |
In the Kingdom of Bears and Bald Eagles By way of Frederick
Sound and the Chatham Strait, where you can catch sight of whales and
sealions in an impressive natural setting, you come to Petersburg. The
settlement was founded by Norwegian immigrants, and the Norwegian tradition has
been maintained to the present day. After setting out from here to watch bears
on Anan Creek*, you may, with a bit of luck, catch sight of the king of the
Alaskan wilderness - an experience you are not going to forget in a hurry. A
boat excursion to the LeConte Glacier*, on the other hand, takes you to the
most southerly tidal glacier of North America. If you favour a more physically
demanding adventure, you can take a hike* into the conservation area of the
Tongass National Forest, with a spectacular natural landscape that is typical of
Alaska, as is the Indian tradition which you experience in Ketchikan. On the
excursion The culture of Alaska's native inhabitants*, you will visit what
is the world's largest collection of artistically carved totem poles. Another
encounter with the mighty rulers of the Alaskan wilderness awaits you if you opt to
watch bears in Traitor's Cove*. Alternatively, the nature experience
Tongass National Park* will offer you fascinating insights into the flora and
fauna of the largest national park in the USA.

Wonderful Water Worlds The breathtaking scenery which you
will enjoy from a bird's eye view during a flight over Misty Fjord* deserves
the status of a national monument. Deep fjord inlets, mighty glaciers and raging
waterfalls will also impress you as we cruise past these miracles of nature. The
beauty of this world of water is matched by that of British Columbia's Inside
Passage, where we pass dense forests, high mountains and countless islands at a
leisurely pace. Perhaps bald sea eagles and orcas will accompany you on your
voyage. To conclude your expedition and en route to Vancouver,
Victoria with its country houses, carefully tended gardens and red
double-decker buses offers a generous dose of British charm. |
On this expedition the Zodiac landings are subject to official permission, and a
change of itinerary may be necessary. The captain will decide on the best possible
alternatives depending on the weather and local conditions.
* These arrangements are not included in the cruise price. The shore
activities listed here are in the planning stage and are subject to changes. |
