Date Destination
Thu22.01.2015 From Buenos Aires take a Charter flight to Ushuaia/Argentina, departure 18.00 hrs
Fri23.01.2015 Relaxation at sea
Sat24.01.2015 - 25.01.2015 Falkland Islands
Fascinating Falkland Islands
Not until 1690 did anyone step foot on the Falkland Islands, and it took until 1764 before the first settlement was formed. That may be due to the windy, cold climate – in which, however, rockhopper and Magellan penguins feel decidedly at home. Nor are they alone: more than 60 native bird species soar through the skies, including the endemic Falkland pipit and the caracara. The only “town” on the Falkland Islands to this very day is Stanley. The houses and small gardens of this former whaling and sealing station are a Victorian delight.
Mon26.01.2015 - 27.01.2015 Relaxation at sea
Wed28.01.2015 - 30.01.2015 South Georgia
Intensive Observations in the Wildlife Paradise of South Georgia
Flexible, spontaneous and impressive: the Zodiacs are in use several times a day to enable expeditionary experiences and wildlife sightings that take your breath away. Take standing in front of a gigantic colony of king penguins, for example. Hundreds of thousands of these animals  populate the slopes and coasts of the island. During spectacular landings on three intensive days, including at Salisbury Plain and Gold Harbour, you will encounter fur seals and elephant seals on the beaches along the craggy coastline, while black-browed albatrosses and giant petrels nest in the rocks. Renowned experts including biologists, geologists or glaciologist will accompany you and add new dimensions to your unique natural experiences by revealing surprising details.
Sat31.01.2015 Relaxation at sea
Sun01.02.2015 - 06.02.2015 South Orkney Islands , Weddell Sea , South Shetland Islands , Antarctic Peninsula
Or they will bring to life the pioneering days of Antarctic research: in the former whaling station Grytviken you will visit the grave of Sir Ernest Shackleton and remember the heroic efforts with which this man once rescued his team. To find out how modern polar researchers work, you will be travelling to the South Orkney Islands where, weather permitting, you will visit the oldest permanently inhabited research station in the Antarctic, the Argentinian station Orcadas (subject to permission). And with a little luck, you will have your first sighting of majestic icebergs off Signy Island.
Thrilling Moments in the Ice: South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula
Where weather and ice dictate the route, only a genuine expedition ship such as the HANSEATIC can guarantee you the full Antarctic experience. It is small, manoeuvrable and, thanks to its highest ice class for passenger ships, even capable of sailing through drift and  pack ice. The ship clears its inexorable path in the direction of the Antarctic Peninsula. You will experience moments of magic when, for example, the Zodiacs bring you to Paulet Island in the Weddell Sea to view thousands of Adelie penguins from close quarters. Or when cruising in the Antarctic Sound, where huge tabular icebergs drift silently through the water. Every day on board passes in the spirit of daring pioneers, such as Otto Nordenskjöld, who once endured great hardship to explore this remote region. With their many years of background in the polar regions of this world, the captain, crew and the well-versed experts in various specialised topics will provide you with enthralling expedition experiences that you will never forget. For instance, you can bathe in hot springs on the black lava beaches of Deception Island. Or marvel at the wonders of Paradise Bay. With the Zodiacs, you will glide past sparkling icebergs to majestic, lofty glacial towers, the crevices of which glow blue. If the ice and weather conditions permit a landing, you will be able to set foot on the Antarctic mainland – an exceptionally moving moment during your expedition. Next your journey takes you further south and through the narrow Lemaire Channel where spectacular peaks on both sides make this waterway one of the most beautiful shipping passages in the world. In the Penola Strait, the excitement on board rises yet again. How far to the south can the HANSEATIC actually penetrate? A question that can only be answered from on board when you get there. Yet one thing is certain, the landings with the Zodiacs will reveal to you the full beauty of this Antarctic wonderland between huge colonies of Adelie and chinstrap penguins. The passage through the Neumayer Channel then serves up the grand finale with panoramic views of amazing glaciers. In the midst of icebergs as high as a house, it is easy to be amazed – and all the more difficult to take your leave.
